The rules, in short.
Yahtzee has no federation: here are the rules from Hasbro, its publisher, and nothing more.
- 13
Thirteen turns
Each player gets 13 turns. On each turn, you roll the 5 dice up to 3 times, then fill one box on your score card; 0 if you have nothing. A filled box never changes.

The upper section
Each box, from aces to sixes, scores the sum of the dice showing that number. With 63 points or more in the upper section, you get a 35-point bonus.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “Upper Section” - 25 to 40
The combinations
Three of a kind and four of a kind: the total of all five dice. Full house: 25. Small straight, four dice in sequence: 30. Large straight, five: 40. Chance: the total of the dice.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “Lower Section” - 50
The Yahtzee
Five of a kind: 50 points. Each extra Yahtzee earns a 100-point bonus, unless the Yahtzee box already shows 0.

Who starts
Everyone rolls one die: the highest goes first, then play passes clockwise. After the 13 turns, the highest total wins.

The rematch, in one press.
On your watch or the three buttons on your earbuds: ⏮ for one player, ⏭ for the other. One press, one game won; ⏯ undoes the last one.
The questions people ask.
How do you score Yahtzee?
Add up your score card: the upper section, its 35-point bonus if you have 63 or more, then the lower section. The highest total wins.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “Upper Section” and “Win”How do you get a Yahtzee?
Get all five dice on the same number, in 3 rolls at most. Between rolls, you keep whichever dice you want. It’s worth 50 points.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “On your turn” and “Lower Section”What is a second Yahtzee worth?
A 100-point bonus, and you use it as a joker: in the upper box for its number, otherwise as three or four of a kind, otherwise in any other open box, at its normal value. If your Yahtzee box shows 0, no bonus.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “Yahtzee Bonus”How do you play Yahtzee with two players?
Same as with more: a column each, 13 turns each, and the highest total wins. Hasbro’s rules work from 2 players up.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “Play” and “Win”Are Yams and Yahtzee the same game?
Yahtzee is the brand name of Hasbro’s game; in France, people often call it Yams. The rules on this page are the ones in the Hasbro booklet.
Can one roll count in several boxes?
It can fit several, but you fill only one per turn, your choice. A large straight, for example, can go in small straight if your large straight box is already filled.
Hasbro, Yahtzee Classic, game rules (ref. C2406, 2016), “Scoring your 13 turns” and “Lower Section”What is the highest possible Yahtzee score?
1,575, with a Yahtzee on each of the 13 turns: 375 on the score card, upper bonus included, plus 12 bonuses of 100. That is a calculation; the rules don’t print it.
